‘The Vikings! CD-ROM is a valuable classroom resource which can be used in a variety of ways. The following sections outline some of the contexts and approaches which may be used. They include:

A) A Subject Based Approach

‘The Vikings’ enables pupils to access a wealth of information when studying the Key Stage 2 History Effects of Viking settlement: Viking raids and settlement; King Alfred and Anglo-Saxon resistance to the Vikings; King Cnut and the Danes; Jorvik and other Viking settlements; heroic poems and sagas; and Viking settlements in a local areas..

We have provided sample worksheets and ideas for other activities both to help pupils to familiarise themselves with the program and to develop their historical knowledge and understanding.

‘The Vikings’ can also be used as a resource for subjects other than history. Teachers might wish to link work from other subjects into a study of the Vikings. This section contains ideas for such links.

Suggestions are also made for ways in which ‘TheVikings’ can be used in other subjects independently of a study of the Vikings.

B) Project Work

‘The Vikings’ CD-ROM contains information which relates to several primary school topics. This section identifies links and suggests activities.

C) Developing Learning Skills

This section explores ways in which the CD-ROM can be used by pupils to develop their study skills.
